Understanding the energy field · the three areas
Medicine is there for the body, psychology for the psyche, Energyology for the energy field.
The remote energy work works only on the energy field. Rico sees it as a complement to medicine and psychology, not as a substitute.
What Rico means by energy field
By energy field, Rico means everything about you that is not body: how you react, what you carry, what you can do and what you find hard. His shortest description is: the invisible structure that holds everything together.
“My interpretation is that my energy field is everything to do with a person that is not physical.”
Rico Brunner
He lists everything that belongs to it: your past and your present, the future that becomes possible from them, your character traits, how you function and how you react, and your potential. It cannot be pinned down in a single sentence, he says himself. The term is used by many people and understood in different ways, because there is no common standard.
He draws a comparison himself and limits it straight away: the energy field is a little like the autonomic nervous system. It controls many processes in the background so that you don’t have to take care of your heartbeat, but it is much more complex.
Soul, aura and psyche are not the same
Right after the first question, three more usually follow. Is that the soul? Is that the aura? Is my psyche part of it? Rico keeps the terms clearly apart.
For Rico, the soul is a part of the energy field, its store. It holds information that is called up in life. He does not like using the word, because it carries religious baggage.
“For me, the soul is the store, like the hard drive.”
Rico Brunner
The aura is also a part of it, but a small one: according to Rico, at most one to five percent, the outer edge. Many people can perceive it, which is why it is so well known. He compares it to a weather report. Whoever reads it sees tendencies of the last weeks or months in it, and perhaps of the next ones. The causes of these tendencies lie deeper, in the finer areas of the field, and that is where he works.
The psyche, on the other hand, does not belong to the energy field, according to Rico. This surprises many people who hear it for the first time.
“The psyche is not part of the energy field. In my view, the psyche is part of the body. But the psyche is the part that reacts most strongly to the energy field.”
Rico Brunner
Feelings, on the other hand, he counts as part of the energy field. For the remote energy work, this boundary is the most important one. It says where Rico’s work ends and where psychology has its own subject.
Three areas, three disciplines
A difficulty can lie in the body, in the psyche or in the energy field. Rico has captured this in a sketch that he calls the basis of Energyology. Its aim: to work where the problem lies.
Rico gives an example for each area. He also says what the other two disciplines can contribute.
| Area | Who is responsible | What the others contribute |
|---|---|---|
| Body, for example with knee pain | medicine | Psychology and Energyology are not responsible for the knee itself, perhaps for dealing with it. |
| Psyche, for example with questions of behavior | psychology | Energyology can support, medicine cannot. |
| Energy field, when something there does not work | Energyology; this is where the remote energy work operates | Psychology helps in dealing with it, medicine does not. |
The table shows responsibilities. It is not a guide for classifying your own situation. No example can do that.
Rico does not see his work as an alternative model. He describes a gap for which nobody was responsible until now.
“Energyology tries to fill a gap that is not filled by medicine and psychology.”
Rico Brunner
“It does not compete with any other discipline, but complements it.”
Rico Brunner on Energyology
Field and body act on each other, but differently than you might think
According to Rico, body and energy field can act on each other. As a rule, however, they do not have a causal effect on each other. That is why his model does not explain physical illnesses from the field.
Two rules that always apply
With physical complaints, you go to your doctor first. You only change ongoing psychological support or a medication together with those who prescribed it. What this means in everyday life is described on the page Alongside doctors and psychology.
Where the boundary is open
With some difficulties, it is not clear whether they lie in the psyche or in the energy field. Rico has not yet determined how to tell the difference. He says so openly. That is why it is stated here too.
According to his description, the only clear thing is that the effect can go in both directions. The field acts on the psyche, and what weighs on the psyche can also act back on the field. Which comes first is not the same for every person.
Three levels in one person
Rico also distinguishes levels in a person: a rational one, an emotional one and an energetic one. You know the first two well. You think, you feel something. You rarely notice the third, because it works in the background.
“You could say the energetic level regulates functionality.”
Rico Brunner
He calls it the most complex of the levels. What it means for your own effort is shown by the image of the iceberg on the page Why effort alone is not enough.
Why this needs a language of its own
For the body, there is medicine, with instruments, terms and long research. For the psyche, there is psychology. For the energy field, a language that describes how it works was missing for a long time.
Many people have felt or sensed the energy field. Some have dismissed it too quickly as esoteric, others have rejected it because it cannot be measured. Since 1998, Rico has been looking for words that soberly describe what he observes: how a field is structured, how it reacts to pressure and why it sometimes does not move on. He calls this energy field mechanics. Energyology is an experience-based model, not a scientifically tested method.
You don’t have to feel anything or believe anything to understand these pages. They describe a mechanism. Whether it fits what you observe in your life is something you can check for yourself.
Where you stand right now
The three areas apply to everyone, but they feel different depending on your situation. If a lot is hard right now, the order is especially important: physical matters go to the doctor first, and ongoing support stays as it is. The remote energy work comes on top and takes nothing away.
If things are going well and you want to keep it that way, the distinction helps you sort things out. Not everything that feels hard for a while lies in the field. And if you want to develop further, it shows where your own practice and learning come in, and where the field lies underneath, which you can hardly reach through practice.
Questions that come up often
- Is the energy field the same as the aura?
- No. According to Rico, the aura is only the outer edge of the energy field, at most one to five percent of it. The work takes place in the finer areas below.
- Is my psyche part of the energy field?
- Not according to Rico. He counts the psyche as part of the body. But it is the part that reacts most strongly to the energy field. He counts feelings as part of the energy field.
- Can I use the remote energy work alongside medical or psychological support?
- Rico sees it as a complement on a different level. What you have agreed with your doctor or psychologist continues to apply. More on this under Alongside doctors and psychology.
- Does Rico explain physical complaints from the field?
- No. Field and body can act on each other, but according to his model they generally have no causal effect. Medicine is responsible for the body.
- How do I know which area my difficulty lies in?
- That cannot be read from a list. With physical complaints, you first have them checked by a doctor. Where the boundary between psyche and field lies has not yet been determined in Rico’s model either.
Where to go next
What a field carries is described on the page How a field becomes stable. What this means in practice alongside your doctor and psychologist is described in Alongside doctors and psychology. You will find the whole model, term by term, in the Energyology section and in the Glossary.
