Understanding the energy field

How an energy field works according to Rico Brunner’s observation: strength and pressure, stability, pace and what you feel of it.

You have made an effort, read, practiced. And still, in one place, nothing moves. Is it down to you? According to Rico Brunner, in many cases it is not about willpower but about the place where your effort arrives, and that place can be described.

Understanding the energy field · effort and mechanics

Where an energy field does not work at one spot, effort is not enough there. That says nothing about your willpower.

It says something about where your effort arrives and where it does not. Rico calls this the most important finding of his research since 1998.

The question it all started with

Two men have the same accident on the motorway. Neither is physically injured. One of them cannot get back on his feet for a long time afterwards. The other gets out and finds it exciting.

Rico himself says that the second man likes action anyway. So the example proves nothing. It shows the question that has occupied him since his youth: why does the same experience carry one person and throw the other off course? His whole research grew out of this question, and from it grew the model he now calls Energyology.

The short answer: a ratio

Rico’s answer is a simple calculation. Your energy field has a strength at every spot. What comes from outside has a size. If the strength is greater, the field carries it. If the pressure is greater, it is overloaded at that spot. The page Pressure, strength and the leeway shows the calculation and the narrow range in which a field moves, with drawings.

A field gets injured all the time, in small things, every day. According to Rico’s observation, it sorts most of this out again by itself, in minutes, hours, weeks or years. Only where a field is so overloaded that it can no longer manage this does something get stuck.

The word “spot” is important. Rico has sharpened his answer. What matters is not how much a field carries overall, but how much it carries where the load arrives. According to his observation, there are areas in which a field that carries little overall can bear more than one that carries a lot overall.

Blue columns: the strength at individual spots. Orange: the height of the load. Schematic, not a measurement and not a real person.

That is why it cannot be said in advance whom an event will hit. Looking back, the calculation explains why it hit one person and not the other. It is not a prediction, because beforehand nobody knows at which spot the load will arrive.

Why effort alone is not enough

Many people have already tried a great deal. They have worked on themselves, read books, changed habits. And at one particular spot, things still did not move on. Rico sums up the most important finding of his research in an image.

“It’s like when a car has a flat tire. Then you can take as many driving lessons as you like. But the tire has to be changed so that you can drive again. And it’s the same with the energy field. When energy fields are defective, when they no longer work, you can try as hard as you like. You won’t manage it.”

Rico Brunner

The image separates two things that easily get mixed up: your ability and the state of the field. Driving lessons make you a better driver. They don’t fix the tire. Someone who is stuck at a spot where their field does not work therefore won’t get further with more willpower. That is no reproach to willpower. It is just the wrong tool for that spot.

The lever is too small

Why does your own effort reach so little of the field? Rico explains it with an iceberg. Only the tip sticks out of the water. It is the part you reach directly with your actions, thoughts and feelings. In his image, that is about one tenth. Everything below, about nine tenths, he calls mechanics: functions to which your own behavior has access only with great difficulty, with a delay or not at all.

The iceberg after Rico’s sketch, with two lines: the dashed one separates what you can change through behavior; the waterline separates what you experience from what you don’t experience. The proportions are Rico’s image, not a measurement.

This explains an experience many people know. You move the tip and even feel that something is happening there. The large part below does not move with it. Rico says the lever is too small.

“Because if you work in the wrong place, you won’t get a result.”

Rico Brunner

On top of that, people look where they feel something. Rico observes that this is exactly why many don’t get further: they always look for the cause in the part they perceive, not where it lies. Why this is so is explained on the page Why you don’t feel everything.

When you know what would be good and still don’t do it

You may know this in small ways: something would be right, and it doesn’t happen. Rico calls such moments little red buttons. Everyone has them, because everyone is overloaded sometimes. According to him, they are not a finding and not a problem.

Alongside this, he describes a rare big case. The field essentially works, and yet the action does not come about. Some areas that trigger an action are stronger. Others are still weakened. That is why the action is not completed. Which fields exactly have to work together for this is something Rico is still researching. He says openly that he does not fully know.

He explicitly rules out one interpretation: that something inside you is working against you.

“In my view, there is no inner energetic saboteur, because the energy field is autonomous in its mechanics.”

Rico Brunner

According to his observation, the field acts much more strongly on behavior than behavior acts on the field. Behavior has an effect back, but not a decisive one. That is why a field can neither be blocked by behavior nor set in motion by behavior alone.

It is not a lack of energy

Many people describe their situation like this: I simply have no energy left. Rico hears this sentence often, and he sees something different in the fields:

“Never in my life, and I have seen many energy fields, have I seen a person with too little energy. I have seen many people who have lost access to their energy”

Rico Brunner

According to Rico, the energy is there. The field turns it down to protect itself, or it does not get through at injured spots. The question is then no longer “How do I get more energy?” but “What is blocking the way?” Rico stresses that no reproach follows from this. Someone who has no access is not to blame.

That is why Rico does not put any energy into a field either. According to his observation, a field processes outside energy poorly, and it can make it dependent. What he does instead is described in Information, not energy.

No shortcut, but fewer detours

Is there a faster way? Rico says clearly: the development of a field cannot be shortened. Whoever skips steps does not build them up. What can be avoided are detours. He describes it like this: do more of what makes you stronger and less of what weakens you. The way itself does not get shorter as a result; it just isn’t made longer.

So effort is not worthless. It has an effect where it arrives: at the tip of the iceberg, in everyday life, in what you do. It just does not replace what does not work below.

When effort is exactly the right thing

Not every case of being stuck has a cause in the energy field. Sometimes a skill is missing that can be practiced. Sometimes something in life no longer fits. And some things belong to medicine or psychology. Where no field is blocking, making an effort is exactly right. The image of the flat tire only applies where a tire really is flat.

No page can say whether a difficulty lies in the field, this one included. Where the boundaries between body, psyche and energy field lie is described in Body, psyche and energy field. You can still take one thing away: if something does not work out despite great effort, that does not automatically mean you don’t want it enough.

When a weakness shows up even though things were going well

According to Rico, strength is always a ratio, in life itself too. Someone who develops faces new demands. There, an area that used to be quite enough can suddenly be the weakest.

“And before, he was the best in the first league, and now in the next higher league he will be the weakest. And that is not because he is not good in the higher league, but because he then has to develop again.”

Rico Brunner

Someone who notices such a weakness has not necessarily lost anything. It can mean that the standard has gone up. Whether this is so for you can only be seen in the field, not in conversation.

What this can mean for you

What effort reaches

  • your actions, your thinking, your everyday life
  • skills that can be practiced
  • the choice of what strengthens you and what weakens you

What effort does not reach

  • spots in the field that don’t work
  • the mechanics below the waterline
  • energy you lack access to

If a lot is too much right now, the image describes a situation, not a weakness. The same load can hit you harder than others because in your case it arrives at a different spot. If things are going well and you want to keep it that way, the question is how much your field carries when life asks more of you for once. And if you want to move forward, it is not about avoiding pressure, but about the spot at which your field can carry the next demand.

Rico does not judge anyone in this. Strength and pressure are not grades for a person, but two quantities in a field that is constantly changing.

Questions that come up often

Should I stop making an effort?
No. Effort has an effect where it arrives, in your actions and in everyday life. It just does not replace what does not work in the field. Both can run side by side.
Does that mean something is wrong with me?
No. Rico describes strength as a distribution over many spots, not as one number for the whole person. Even a field that carries a lot overall can be overloaded at one spot.
How can I tell whether my difficulty lies in the field?
Not just from how it feels. What you feel are consequences; according to Rico, the causes are only visible in the field. With physical complaints, you go to your doctor first.
Can’t Rico just give me energy?
Rico deliberately does not do that. According to his observation, it is not the energy that is missing but access to it, and outside energy can make a field dependent. He provides information, not energy.
Is there an exercise I can use to reach the mechanics myself?
Rico does not name one. In his image of the iceberg, your own behavior mainly reaches the tip. What you can do yourself is avoid detours: more of what strengthens you, less of what weakens you.

Where to go next

The calculation of pressure and strength, with drawings, is under Pressure, strength and the leeway. Where the boundary between body, psyche and energy field lies is described in Body, psyche and energy field. What a field carries is explained in How a field becomes stable.
