Can I learn this?

Please note: the workshops are currently held in German only. I plan to offer workshops in English at a later date. If you would like to learn this and organize a workshop in English yourself, you are welcome to send an inquiry to [email protected].

Yes, with time and practice. What I pass on in the two workshops, who they are meant for, and why one thing, repeated often, takes you further than many different courses.

Workshop · Learning to Heal and Learning to Perceive

What I do is a craft. A craft can be learned, with time and with practice.

In two workshops I pass on the foundation. Both begin with you: before you perceive something in others or are there for others, you learn to stay with yourself.

What I do in my work

I read energy fields. For that I need no photo and no story; I look at the energy field directly. I see how it works, where it carries and where it is overwhelmed. Since 1998 this has added up to over 60,000 sessions.

There are two things I never do. I don’t send energy, because an energy field can only process its own energy well. And I don’t force an energy field in a direction I have chosen. I give an impulse, and what the field does with it, it decides for itself. The same two rules apply in the workshops. How I work in detail is described in the section “How I work”, on the left in the sidebar under “Sections”.

Why talent alone is not enough

Reading energy fields is a strong innate ability in my case. On its own it would not have taken me far. A footballer with a lot of talent doesn’t play well either if he doesn’t train every day. I honed my ability in research and in the sessions themselves.

Rico’s words

I think it’s like in sport or anywhere: talent, what you’re born with, is one thing; what you make of it is, in my experience, almost more important and much more decisive.

Rico Brunner

At around sixteen I noticed that many people perceive differently from me. After that it took a long time before I could trust my perception.

Rico’s words

And looking back, it took me ten years until I really had my perception firmly under control. But those were ten years in which I spent at least eight hours a day doing nothing but working on perception.

Rico Brunner, Workshop

You don’t have to copy that. It only shows how much practice lies behind something that looks easy from the outside.

I am convinced that what I do can be learned. Every person perceives the energy of other people. The only open questions are whether they do it consciously and whether they can tell apart what they perceive. How far you get, no one can promise you, not even me. What you bring with you plays a part. How much you practice plays a bigger one. More on this under A craft, not a gift.

One thing, as often as it takes to sink in

Today many people learn a great many different things. A weekend here, a training there, then the next method. I call them training tourists. They have seen a lot and experienced little.

Many courses, each once

  • something new every weekend
  • seen a lot, experienced little yourself
  • in the end a little of many things, nothing in a way that carries

One thing, repeated

  • the same exercise, again and again
  • a different understanding each time
  • step by step, until the basics sit

A juggler shows what the second looks like.

Rico’s words

But if I start learning to juggle with just one ball, then with two, then with three, with four and so on, and keep on practicing, then at some point I can juggle with seven balls, because I went step by step

That is also how you learn in the workshops. The exercises stay the same. If you come for the second or third time, you do the same exercises as the first time and understand them differently each time.

Rico’s words

And it’s about repeating the whole thing to deepen understanding, and not about learning fancy things you have no idea about because you can’t put the basics into practice.

Rico Brunner, conversation about the workshop

The spectacular is left out on purpose. If you apply something you don’t understand, you can harm yourself and others.

Two workshops, one beginning

It used to be a single workshop, and it lasted four days. I noticed that too many exercises at once make people tired, and then less gets through. Today there are two workshops of two days each, each with its own theme.

Workshop · two days

Learning to Heal

Staying with yourself, becoming strong and being there for others without coming to harm yourself. You practice being with yourself and laying on hands without transferring energy.

Workshop · two days

Learning to Perceive

Perceiving, naming clearly, telling apart and checking. You practice mainly in pairs: asking, writing down, questioning, asking anew.

To the workshop “Learning to Perceive”

What both have in common is the beginning. Before you perceive something in others, you learn to stay with yourself. Perceiving comes last on purpose. Without a firm footing, perception grows bigger, but the ability to tell things apart does not get better, and that is overwhelming.

In the fire brigade and the police there is a simple rule: you only help if you don’t put yourself in danger while doing so. “Learning to Heal” is built on this rule. In “Learning to Perceive” you spend two minutes with yourself after every exercise before the next one begins. Why this ground matters so much is described under Solid ground instead of a swamp, and the basic exercise itself under Being with yourself.

Rico’s words

It’s not about you copying me, but about me giving you a mechanism that helps you find your own path and also walk it, and stay stable while doing so.

How much practice it takes

That depends on what you want.

For yourself

After the workshop I recommend a few minutes twice a day. More is not better here. It takes little, but the right thing at the right moment.

For working with others

Then it takes a lot of practice, no matter how much talent you bring. Practicing now and then is not enough. It takes consistency: keeping at it, even on days when nothing seems to move forward.

If you want to work with other people, you first become strong yourself. In one workshop I once worked out for a participant how long that might take in her case. It is described under If you want to work with people yourself. What daily practice looks like is described under Keep practicing at home.

Who the workshops are for

The people in my workshops come from very different directions. Some are going through a difficult time and want to learn to stay with themselves when a lot is going on around them. Some have found their ground and want to keep it. Others stand firm and want to go further, perhaps one day also working with other people. Often it is all of these at once in one person, depending on whether it is about family, a relationship or work.

You don’t need any prior training. In the same room sit people with their own practice, people with a lot of experience in other methods, and people who are hearing about energy fields for the first time. I set no condition for taking part. More important than prior knowledge is whether you see your own limits. More on this under How you recognize your own limit.

What a workshop day feels like

The exercises are unspectacular. A day with me usually has this rhythm:

Arriving with yourselfYou sit and are with yourself. Nothing more.
Short exercisesA few minutes, then changing places, then once more.
Something newOnly once the footing holds: laying on hands or perceiving in pairs.
QuestionsBetween the exercises there is time for everything on your mind.

Those who try especially hard usually get less far. That is why I often say in the exercises that no one should make an effort. There are no mistakes:

Rico’s words

It’s only about practicing. You don’t have to do anything right, you just have to practice.

Rico Brunner, Workshop

Perhaps at the end of the workshop you feel you haven’t sensed anything. That is allowed, and it doesn’t mean nothing has happened. Some people have told me half a year later that they now understand what I meant. More on this under When you don’t perceive anything.

I don’t offer experiences or entertainment in the workshops. What matters to me is stability and strength, and the rule behind it is: what you practice must not weaken you.

Why I give workshops

For a long time I didn’t want to give workshops at all. I was worried about showing something that in the end would harm people more than help them. Then I found a way that avoids this: I pass on the basics, and those who practice them long enough move on by themselves.

Rico’s words

And that’s actually how it came about that I give people the basics, and those who do the basics for long enough then move on by themselves.

Rico Brunner, Workshop

What makes me glad is the moment when someone looks at things differently than before. Not because I told them, but because they saw it themselves.

Questions that come up often

Do I have to attend a workshop to take something away from here?
No. You can try the basic exercise under Being with yourself today. In the workshop you practice it with others, with guidance, and can ask your questions.
Which workshop do I start with?
Both begin with the same basic exercise; you can start with either. If you mainly want to be able to stay with yourself, “Learning to Heal” is a good fit. If your perception is on your mind, “Learning to Perceive” is a good fit. More under Where you can start.
Do I need prior knowledge or training?
No. What matters more is whether you see your own limits. More under How you recognize your own limit.
Will I learn there to work the way you do?
You learn the basics. How far you get with them depends above all on how long you practice. More under If you want to work with people yourself.
Can I attend the same workshop twice?
Yes, and many people do. The exercises stay the same; your understanding changes.
What does a workshop cost?
The prices are on the website.

You will find more answers under Frequently asked questions.

How to find your way around here

On the left in the sidebar, under “The two workshops”, there is a detailed page on “Learning to Heal” and one on “Learning to Perceive”. Below follow the foundation that applies to both, and everything for reference. At the top in the header, the tabs lead to the themes of each workshop and to what comes after the workshop. At the bottom of every page you can continue in order. You can also start with the question that is on your mind right now; Where you can start and the search at the top help with that. The words with a specific meaning are listed under Terms from A to Z.
