Terms from A to Z
Please note: the workshops are currently held in German only. I plan to offer workshops in English at a later date. If you would like to learn this and organize a workshop in English yourself, you are welcome to send an inquiry to [email protected].
The words that have a specific meaning in the workshops. Each briefly explained, with the way to the page where it is described in detail.
Workshop · Terms
Each word the way I use it in the workshops. Explained once, briefly, with the way to the page where it is described in detail.
You know many of these words from everyday life, such as limit, protection or footing. Here they have a precise meaning. They refer to the energy field, not to the body and not to behavior. Whether you are going through a difficult time right now, want to hold on to what you have built, or want to move on: the words mean the same for everyone.
How the basic terms fit together
Most terms belong to an order that is the same in both workshops. At the bottom is the basic exercise, being with yourself. From it grows a firm footing. Only on this footing does everything else come in: in “Learning to Perceive”, telling things apart; in “Learning to Heal”, being there for others.
Knowing a word doesn’t yet mean being able to do the thing. That is why each term lists the page where you can see how it is practiced.
Rico’s words
And just because you sense something doesn’t mean you understand it. There’s a huge way between the two.

A
- Boundaries
- Understanding where you end and the other person begins. Together with being with yourself, it is the basis for staying with yourself and at the same time being there for others. It only becomes something you can experience in practice with other people. The workshop “Learning to Heal”
- Stimulating
- The third of the three ways of working with energy, and the only one practiced in the workshops. You don’t give any energy. The other person’s energy field begins to function again by itself, the way laughter is contagious. A joke, on the other hand, has to fit for someone to laugh. Three ways of helping with energy
- Assumption
- A statement that may or may not be true and that is taken on unchecked, often because nothing was perceived at that point. For me the greatest danger in working with energy. Its counterpart is the finding. Learning to distinguish
- Writing down
- What you perceive, you write down straight away. What you have to remember takes space away from your perception. Later you can check what was right. What is practiced in the workshop
- Training tourist
- My word for people who attend many different courses, each one once. They have seen a lot and experienced little. The counterpart is repeating one thing as often as it takes to sink in. Can I learn this?
- Balancing
- What an energy field does by itself all day long: it puts back in order what has thrown it out of calm. What is learned is not this process, but not standing in its way. Why calm comes first
- Making peace
- Making peace with what happened, without making it smaller. I distinguish it from forgiving. May I push things away? Do I have to forgive?
B
- Gut feeling
- A single signal from intuition, its visible part. Intuition is more than that. What intuition is
- Finding
- What you have really perceived. This also includes the honest sentence “No idea, it could also be something else”. Its counterpart is the assumption. Learning to distinguish
- Being with yourself
- The basic exercise of both workshops. You sit, close your eyes and try to sense your whole body, as a whole. Whether it goes well doesn’t matter. Being with yourself
- Resilience journal
- A notebook in which, at intervals, you write down what has put a strain on you and how you dealt with it. Over time it compares what the feeling alone doesn’t show. Keep practicing at home
- Observing
- Looking without interpreting straight away. This includes recognizing when an observation is complete. Why even good perception can be wrong
- Calming
- The first step before anything else can happen in an energy field. An overwhelmed field doesn’t get to balancing as long as it is overwhelmed. That is why less is often more. Why calm comes first
D
- Defensive
- When you are unsure, you wait and observe instead of doing something. That way you stay with your own strength. When you don’t perceive anything
- Differentiating
- That is often what I call telling apart in the workshops. See Telling apart.
- Three ways
- Giving your own life force, passing on a universal energy, or stimulating the other person’s field. Only the third is practiced in the workshops. Three ways of helping with energy
- Round
- The exercise in “Learning to Perceive”, always the same: a question, write it down, two minutes with yourself, question what you have written down, ask anew with a new sheet. What is practiced in the workshop
E
- Self-caused or caused from outside
- The first question when I see something in an energy field: is it self-caused or did it come from outside? As long as that is not clear, I don’t ask the next question. Learning to distinguish
- Sending energy
- Transferring energy to another person. I don’t do this, and it is not practiced in the workshops. An energy field can only process its own energy well. Three ways of helping with energy
- Energy field
- I call it the invisible structure that holds everything together. It is neither the body nor the psyche; there are specialists for both. Can I learn this?
- Energy field analysis
- My fixed procedure for looking at an energy field from top to bottom and writing it down: first the whole, then head, heart, belly, knees and finally the feet. On the second day of “Learning to Perceive” I show it with a simple figure on paper. What is practiced in the workshop
- Decision tree
- An image for telling things apart. Each yes-or-no answer decides which paths are still open afterwards. With ten steps there are over a thousand paths. Learning to distinguish
- Experiential model
- A model that organizes observations from practice. It is not scientifically tested and promises no result. Where the statements come from
F
- Ability and constitution
- Two different questions when someone wants to work with other people. Ability: can they do it? Constitution: can they bear it without becoming weaker themselves? If you want to work with people yourself
- Firm footing
- My image for stability. If you are stable, you stand on solid ground. If you are not, you stand as if in a swamp and wobble at everything that happens. Solid ground instead of a swamp
- Foreign energy
- Energy that doesn’t come from your own field. It carries for a while, but a field can’t process it properly. Three ways of helping with energy
G
- Limit, your own
- It begins where you become unsure how you should help. Seeing your limit means knowing how far you can work safely. Experience alone doesn’t replace that. How you recognize your own limit
- Basic exercise
- See Being with yourself.
H
- Laying on hands
- You lay your hand on, stay with yourself, are there for the other person and observe. You don’t transfer any energy, and your focus stays more with yourself than with the other person. Laying on hands without transferring energy
- Craft
- What perceiving and working with energy fields are for me: not a gift, but something you practice, learn and develop. Talent helps; practice matters more. A craft, not a gift
- “Learning to Heal”
- The name of the workshop in which you practice staying with yourself and being there for others without transferring energy. What is meant is something matter-of-fact: putting something back in order so that it works, like a bicycle tire from which the nail has been pulled and which has been patched. The workshop “Learning to Heal”
I
- Intuition
- A way of interpreting impressions, alongside the intellect. For me it begins where you can clearly name and tell apart what you have sensed. It is active and not merely receptive. What intuition is
K
- Checking
- How I deal with my own perception. I don’t trust it blindly but check it continuously. Learning to distinguish
- Range of strength
- What you can carry and see through to the end with your own strength. I advise working only within this range. How you recognize your own limit
M
- Sharing, in measured doses
- Not saying everything you perceive, but what helps the other person move on. While telling, you watch how they react and stop when it gets too much. When to say what you perceive
S
- Protection
- Many people learn to protect themselves from foreign energies. For me that is an illusion. Protection costs energy that you then lack, and what carries you is inner strength. The need for protection shows that you are beyond your limit. How you recognize your own limit
- Silence is golden
- The less you tell of what you have perceived, the more overview you keep. You then overwhelm neither yourself nor the other person. When to say what you perceive
- Stability
- Staying calm in the first moment and then acting rightly, thought through or from the gut, because the ground carries you. It arises from the interplay in the field and can’t be produced directly. It is the foundation of both workshops and comes before perception. Solid ground instead of a swamp
- Standard information
- A ready-made sentence that is supposed to fit everyone without checking, such as “Everyone who is unhappy has only themselves to blame”. It replaces telling things apart instead of doing it. Why even good perception can be wrong
- Stop
- If you are lying down during laying on hands and feel uncomfortable, you say stop and sit up. That needs no reason, and no one takes it personally. Laying on hands without transferring energy
T
- Pace of the field
- An energy field processes only as fast as it can. Too much at once would overwhelm it. It always goes as fast as is possible, and accepting that is part of it. Why calm comes first
U
- Overwhelm
- When more comes at an energy field than it can carry. It often looks like too little energy, even when a system seems sluggish. That is why calming is usually more sensible than driving it on. Solid ground instead of a swamp
- Telling apart
- Finding out where a perception comes from and what exactly it says. Is it a wish, an idea, a thought, a feeling or a perception? The actual subject of both workshops. Learning to distinguish
V
- Pushing away
- An ability of the field. What can’t be processed right now is pushed aside and processed later. It becomes unhelpful with what is obvious and what you need to take care of. May I push things away? Do I have to forgive?
- Forgiving
- For me a strong word that only fits where someone has really destroyed something. If you forgive, you tell your own system that it wasn’t so bad. Whether you forgive is your decision. May I push things away? Do I have to forgive?
- Intellect
- The other way of interpreting impressions, alongside intuition. Intuition shows something; the intellect looks at it from different angles and asks the questions about it. What intuition is
W
- Perception
- What you take in from yourself or from others. For me the precondition, not the goal. It becomes clearer the more you are with yourself. Solid ground instead of a swamp
- Interaction
- What happens between two people when they meet. It is an encounter, not a transfer, just as the sun warms you without anything of it passing over to you. Laying on hands without transferring energy
- Repeating
- Doing the same exercises again and again, each time with a different understanding. That is why the exercises in the workshops stay the same, also for everyone who comes for the second time. Can I learn this?
Z
- Interpreting too early
- Telling a story before the observation is complete, like a film whose ending you think you know after ten minutes. It happens especially to those who perceive a lot. Why even good perception can be wrong
- Two minutes with yourself
- The pause between the exercises in “Learning to Perceive”. Before you look at the other person again, you spend two minutes with yourself, without thinking about what you perceived. What is practiced in the workshop
Where to go next
What the terms mean in the everyday life of a workshop is described under Frequently asked questions. Where the explanations come from and what are my own words is described under Where the statements come from.
