The “Learning to Heal” workshop

Please note: the workshops are currently held in German only. I plan to offer workshops in English at a later date. If you would like to learn this and organize a workshop in English yourself, you are welcome to send an inquiry to [email protected].

Two days in person, mostly practice. You learn to stay with yourself and be there for others without coming to harm yourself. Without transferring energy and without spectacle.

Workshop · Learning to Heal

Being there for others without coming to harm yourself. That is what these two days are about.

You practice two things: being with yourself, and laying on your hand without transferring energy. On your own and with other people, because one can’t be understood without the other.

Why this workshop exists

As a young man I explored many philosophies and energy work. In the process I noticed something that wouldn’t let go of me. Many people who worked with energy became tired and sensitive from it, and some also overwhelmed. Some told me they could see two people a day and then needed rest.

I didn’t want that. I like to work, and I work a lot. I found nothing that was different. So I did something unusual.

Rico’s words

I wanted to be able to work normally, and then I went searching and found nothing, and then I decided not to do anything, but only to observe.

Rico Brunner, Workshop

Everything I do today and pass on in this workshop grew out of that decision. I don’t send energy, and I don’t give any. That is why I can give sessions from morning to evening. In the evening I am tired because the day was long. The work itself takes nothing from me.

The rule everything builds on

In the fire service and in the police, the rule is: you only help if you don’t put yourself in danger by doing so. Four firefighters don’t go into a burning house to get one person out if everyone burns afterwards. The same rule applies to working with energy.

Rico’s words

And helping people means that you yourself stay protected while doing it. That you yourself don’t come to harm when helping.

Rico Brunner, Workshop

In this workshop I care about stability, strength, self-protection and resilience. I don’t offer entertainment or big experiences. What you practice here shouldn’t weaken you. That is the measure for every exercise.

Why you can’t learn this on your own

Taking care of yourself and being there for others: that sounds like two different courses. I deliberately don’t separate them. You only experience where you end and the other person begins when another person is there. That is why this workshop can’t be taught to a single person. You need people to practice with.

In the end, everything comes down to two questions. What does it mean to be with yourself? And what does it mean to set your boundaries? Both are the prerequisite for taking care of yourself. And both are the prerequisite for being there for others. By my estimate, someone who only works on themselves gets less far after ten weekends than after a single one in which they practice both.

The three parts can’t be learned separately. What you experience with others shows you your own limit. Schematic.

This becomes a circle that keeps turning. Whoever can stay with themselves is there for others without losing themselves. Whoever is there for others understands better what staying with yourself means. In life we constantly deal with other people. So this applies to practice just as much as to family, work and friendships.

What happens on the two days

I structure every workshop a little differently and adapt the exercises to the people who are there. The order stays the same, though.

First day, morningBeing with yourself. Short blocks of around two minutes; in between, you change places.
First day, afternoonGetting started with laying on hands, first at an empty couch, then with a person.
Second dayLaying on hands under more difficult conditions. Plus rounds of questions.
At the endA round of questions and my recommendation for practicing at home.

Perceiving deliberately comes last. If we started sensing into other people’s energy fields first thing in the morning, it would be too much. I put it in the workshop with an image:

Rico’s words

The exciting thing is, when we are strong and become strong, then our perception opens like a flower in the morning. And if we open our perception without having strength and stability, then we fall like a tree that is being cut down.

Rico Brunner, Workshop

Both topics used to be a single workshop. Today this one stands entirely on the ground you stand on. Perceiving has its own workshop: The “Learning to Perceive” workshop.

Why the exercises stay simple

What I show is so simple that some people don’t believe me at first. Many courses work differently: you learn something impressive, imitate it and don’t understand it. I consider that dangerous, for you and for the person you practice with.

Rico’s words

And I chose a way in which people can learn to work with energy that isn’t spectacular, that is pragmatic. It works in such a way that you don’t damage your own energy field or the energy fields of the other person. Because meaning well doesn’t protect against causing damage. You have to learn the craft.

Rico Brunner

That is why the exercises stay the same from workshop to workshop. Whoever comes for the second or third time does the same as the first time and understands it differently each time.

The exercises stay the same; understanding grows. The levels are my estimate, not a measurement. Schematic.

It takes courage to limit yourself to the little that works. Every improvement I tried to make to my own approach turned out to be less efficient in the end.

What counts in the end

A million times zero is zero. A thousand times ten thousand is ten million. So how much talent someone brings matters little. What matters more is what they make of it. Strength comes from acting and from repetition.

That is why this workshop isn’t about who sees more, who senses more or who can do more. Everyone brings their own abilities.

Rico’s words

Each of you can do things that I can’t, and I can do things that you can’t. So it balances out.

Rico Brunner, Workshop

What I want to give you is not a method to copy, but a mechanism with which you find your own way. After the workshop, a few minutes twice a day are enough to keep practicing. What that looks like is described under Keep practicing at home.

Who the workshop is for

Some come because a lot is crashing down on them right now and they want to learn to stay with themselves. Others have found their ground and want to hold on to it. Still others stand firm and want to go further, perhaps one day also working with other people. For many it is all of these at once, depending on whether it is about family, a relationship or work.

You don’t need any prior training. In the same room, people with their own practice and people who are hearing about energy fields for the first time practice together. I don’t set any conditions. More important than your prior knowledge is whether you see your own limits.

What you learn

The topics of this workshop each have their own page. You can read them in order or start with the question that is on your mind right now.

Why the workshop has become shorter

The first workshop, more than ten years ago, lasted four days. Back then I thought I had to offer a lot. The participants were enthusiastic, and it was still too much. Today it is two days with fewer exercises and a little more explanation. Whoever is tired takes in less. The same rule applies to working on the energy field; more on this under Why calm comes first.

Date and registration

The next “Learning to Heal” workshop takes place on November 28 and 29, 2026, at REVIER Säntispark in Abtwil near St. Gallen. Price and registration are on the website rico-brunner.com. Each workshop has between 15 and 40 participants. The workshops are held in German.

Questions that come up often

Do I need prior knowledge or training?
No. More important is whether you see your own limits. More under How you recognize your own limit.
Do I have to let myself be touched?
No. Whoever doesn’t want to take part in an exercise sits off to the side. And whoever is lying down may say stop at any time and sit up. More under Laying on hands without transferring energy.
Will I learn to transfer energy?
No, quite the opposite. You learn to be there for someone without giving or taking energy. Why is described under Three ways of helping with energy.
Can I work with other people after the workshop?
I don’t tie that to a course, but to a question: do you see your limit? Whoever wants to work with others needs a lot of practice. More under How you recognize your own limit and If you want to work with people yourself.
And if I don’t notice anything at the end?
That happens and doesn’t mean that nothing has happened. Some people told me half a year later that they now understood what I had meant. More under When you don’t perceive anything.
Can I attend the workshop a second time?
Yes. The exercises stay the same; your understanding doesn’t.
What does the workshop cost?
The price is on the website.

More answers are under Frequently asked questions. Where you can start helps you decide which of the two workshops to begin with.
