Learning to Heal · What you learn
What the name of the workshop means
Please note: the workshops are currently held in German only. I plan to offer workshops in English at a later date. If you would like to learn this and organize a workshop in English yourself, you are welcome to send an inquiry to [email protected].
The word in the name sounds big. What is meant is something matter-of-fact. Your system works by itself, and a large part of learning consists of not standing in its way.
Learning to Heal · what the name means
The word in the name sounds big. What I mean by it is something matter-of-fact: your system works by itself.
So a large part of what you learn in this workshop is leaving things out. Not intervening, not pushing, not working on every problem separately. And being there for others without harming yourself in the process.
A matter-of-fact word for a matter-of-fact process
The workshop has had this name for years, and the name stays. People who hear it often think of something big, of redemption or of a special experience. That is not what I mean. I mean a process that runs constantly in every person: your energy field balances out what throws it off balance. Sometimes that means finding its way back to a function. Often it means finding a new way. That is why, for me, development is always part of it.
What the body needs belongs to medicine. This workshop is about the energy field. The two can act on each other, but they are not the same.
Your system works by itself
Your energy field works fully automatically. It processes stimuli faster than you can think. You know this from the body: no one orders their pulse to drop by thirty percent. If someone tried, they would be more likely to throw their body into disorder than to calm it.
Rico’s words
That’s why the most important thing is that we don’t interfere in our own processes.
Rico Brunner, Workshop
It is the same with the energy field. The more you want to determine how it should be, the more you block its natural ability to respond. That is why a large part of learning consists of not standing in the way of your own system. That sounds like little. In practice it is the hardest part, because almost everyone has learned to do something.
Two ways of dealing with problems
There are two ways of approaching problems. The first collects everything that isn’t good and works through it, one thing after another. The second makes sure that the system works. Then it doesn’t have to take care of every problem separately.
Problem by problem
- each problem is looked at separately
- when one is gone, the next one shows up
- the cause behind it stays where it is
Strengthening the system
- the question is why the system isn’t working
- the work happens in a few places
- what the system can do itself, it does itself
I take the second way. The reason lies in what I see in energy fields. As a rule I find one to at most three causes. Around ninety percent of the problems go back to them. A great many symptoms arise from them, and most approaches start with these symptoms.
I am a friend of efficiency and of shortcuts. Even so, I don’t consider my way the only right one.
Rico’s words
As far as I’m concerned, anyone can take this path. I’m not saying I’m right. That’s just my experience.
Rico Brunner, Workshop
There are problems every day
No one lives without problems. Every day something comes along that challenges you, at work, in the family, within yourself. What matters is how much your system can carry.
That is why I consider strengthening the system the only sustainable thing. If you only take care of the problems, you can talk about problems all day long. On the emotional and mental level a lot is possible. Where the body is concerned, the possibilities are limited.
Rico’s words
We have problems every day. We have challenges every day.
Rico Brunner, Workshop
Not everything has to be worked on
Every person carries hurts from their childhood and from their life. The question is not how bad something was. The question is whether it affects your life today. If it does, it is worth looking at. If not, it may stay where it is.
That can be a relief. If you want to work through everything that has ever happened, it takes your whole adult life and you no longer get round to living.
Rico’s words
Basically it’s important to focus on the present and not on the past. If you focus on the past, then you live in the past.
Rico Brunner
If you have enough carrying capacity, you can live with hurts, because they no longer determine you. You take care of what holds you back today and let the rest rest.
The small things in everyday life
By the word in the name I also mean very everyday things. You had a hard day, someone said something that hurt you. In the evening you sit together with a friend. She gives you nothing and does nothing with you. She is simply there.
You know the same from a mother who takes her crying child in her arms. She doesn’t transfer any energy and has no technique. She is there for the child. This is the oldest form of what we practice in the workshop, and it mostly happens unconsciously. In the workshop you become aware of it. How it differs from other forms is described under Three ways of helping with energy.
What this means for the workshop
If you want to learn to be there for others, you first learn to do less. You learn to stay with yourself, not to intervene and not to give anything. That way you don’t come to harm yourself in the process. If you are going through a difficult phase, you practice working less against yourself in your own everyday life. If you want to hold on to what you have built, you practice not covering it up with too much doing. And if you want to develop further, you practice the foundation for everything that comes later.
What this looks like in the room is described under Laying on hands without transferring energy. Why an overwhelmed system needs calm first is described under Why calm comes first.
Questions that come up often
- Does the name promise that I will feel better afterwards?
- No. The name is old and describes a process, not a result. In the workshop you learn how this process works and how not to stand in its way. What your body needs belongs to medicine.
- Do I have to work through everything that has happened to me?
- No. What matters is what affects your life today. Much can stay in the background. More under May I push things away? Do I have to forgive?.
- Do I work on my own problems in the workshop?
- You practice the foundation. We don’t talk about your personal situation in detail there. In the question rounds there is room for everything you want to understand.
- Why should doing less bring more?
- Because your energy field works by itself. Intervening tends to disturb this process rather than support it. More under Why calm comes first.
