The iceberg: where you can start

You set yourself a goal, you understand exactly what it is about, and still little changes. Many people know this. Energyology™ has an image for it: the iceberg.

Energyology™ · Approach

With your behavior, thinking and feeling you reach the tip of the iceberg. What lies below is mechanics, and it decides whether an energy field holds.

Put simply, that is the finding of my research.

The tip and what lies below

Of an iceberg you see only the tip. Most of it lies under water. An energy field is similar. Through your own behavior, thinking and feeling you can change at most the top part of level 3, about one tenth. The other ninety percent have to do with functions you can hardly reach that way, or only very slowly.

The question the image comes from

At the beginning of my research was the question of why two people who go through the same experience carry on so differently. One lives on as if nothing had happened. The other is hurt or overwhelmed. The answer I found is the iceberg.

If the mechanics below the waterline function, the energy field holds, and it withstands what life brings. If they do not function, it does not hold. What is surprising is how little the psyche and behavior can do on these levels. If the levels below do not function, it does not help much how well the tip functions.

Starting in the wrong place

Many people start at the tip their whole life long. They make an effort, they practice, they set themselves goals. That is not wrong. It just reaches only a small part. That is also the reason why I described Energyology™.

“Because if you work in the wrong place, you won’t get a result.”

This page applies to every situation. If you are going through a hard stretch right now, you will find an explanation here for why good intentions often don’t take hold. If you want to keep what you have built, you will see what it rests on. And if you want to move forward, you will see where the bigger lever is.

What this means for my work

I work below the waterline, where your behavior can hardly reach. That is why you notice some things only later, or not at all. What you feel of it and why is described in the How I work section under How you experience the work.

Questions that come up often

Does that mean my own effort is worth nothing?
No. At the tip you can change something with your behavior, and that has its value. The iceberg only shows that the bigger part lies below.
Is it exactly ninety percent?
The number is an image for the order of magnitude, not a measurement. In earlier talks I have also spoken of two thirds.
