What we measure
Is anyone keeping track of what you read?
Yes, page views are counted. Nobody finds out who made them.
This documentation has more than ninety pages in many languages. Rico wants to know which of them are read and which nobody finds. To do this, a program counts the page views in the background. It is called Matomo and runs on our own server in Switzerland.
The next paragraphs say exactly what is stored.
What is counted
Each page view leaves a few details behind:
- which page you opened, and in which language
- how long it was open
- which website you came from, only its name and never the exact address
- which link to another website you click and which file you download
- roughly which country the visit comes from
- whether you are reading on a phone, a tablet or a computer
Nothing more.
What is not stored
Your visit stores nothing on your device. No cookie, no entry in the browser storage. That is why we do not ask for your permission. There is nothing you would have to say yes to.
There is one exception, and you make it yourself: if you choose light or dark mode or a language, your browser remembers that choice for your next visit. It stays on your device, and the counting program does not read it.
Your IP address is shortened before it is stored. What is left is enough to name a country, not to find you again.
We do not store a name, an email address or a phone number. We do not measure what you type into a search field. We do not record mouse movements and do not take screen recordings.
Within one day, your page views belong together as one visit. The next day, counting starts over, with no link to the day before.
Who sees the numbers
Rico and the team of Rico Brunner AG. The numbers stay on our server. We do not pass them on, do not sell them and do not use them for advertising. None of it goes to an AI provider.
How long the numbers are kept
The individual page views are deleted after 90 days. What remains is the statistic: how often a page was opened in a month. We keep that for two years.
If you do not want to be counted
Your browser can say so, and we listen. If it sends “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control”, the counting program is not even loaded. Not a single page view then reaches our server.
In Firefox, the setting is under “Settings”, then “Privacy & Security”. In other browsers it has a similar name, and some need an extension for it. On our side, you do not have to click anything.
Why we count at all
These pages are meant to answer questions before you ask them. Whether that works does not show while writing. It shows in the numbers. A chapter that everyone closes again after two sentences is clearly not written clearly enough.
How we handle data is described in detail in the privacy policy (in English).
